Waste and Recycling

6/7/24: Priority Waste LLC has recently purchased the residential waste collection business from GFL (Green for Life) in Southeast Michigan, including for those communities located in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. The transaction is expected to take effect on July 1.

Grosse Pointe Woods residents may experience delays in trash and recycling pickup during the changeover from GFL to Priority. We appreciate patience during this time of transition.

*Note that curbside leaf pick-up is on a different daily schedule than the rubbish yard waste pick-up.*

All rubbish, recycling bins, yard waste, and brush are to be set out for collection NO LATER than 7 a.m. on the day scheduled for collection and NO EARLIER than 5 p.m. the day before scheduled collection. Various types of trash should be placed next to each other at curbside. Different trucks pick up rubbish, recycling, yard waste and brush, at different times. Neatly placed trash at curbside will help ensure a trouble-free pick-up. The Rubbish Guidelines and Procedures and the Solid Waste Program Brochure are provided for your convenience.

All rubbish, recycling, and yard waste will be collected on a Monday-through-Thursday schedule. Friday pick-ups will occur only when there is a major holiday in the week, including New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The schedule and boundaries for regular waste and recycling pick-up, are as follows:

  • Monday – All streets west of Mack Avenue
  • Tuesday – East of Mack Ave. from north city limits to Hollywood
  • Wednesday – East of Mack Ave. from Hawthorne to Renaud (including North and South)
  • Thursday – East of Mack Ave. from Oxford (including North and South) to south city limit

The Grosse Pointe Woods trash contractor,  Priority Waste LLC, provided heavy-duty, wheeled trash and recycling containers to each residence in Grosse Pointe Woods.  A 64-gallon brown cart will be designated for “Waste Only,” and a similar green container labeled for “Recyclables.” Plastic garbage bags still will be required for placement in the waste container, however all recyclable materials remain loose. Should you need an additional cart, they can be purchased from  Priority Waste LLC for $65.00 each. Please contact the  Priority Waste LLC CUSTOMER CARE CENTER at (586) 228-1200.

Priority Waste LLC handles collection of rubbish, compost, bundled brush and material for recycling. The Department of Public Works handles all unbundled brush pick-up and chipping.
