Absentee Voting
Absentee Ballots
In order to get an absentee ballot, you must either be on the Permanent Ballot list, or you must complete and return an application for every election. All registered voters in Michigan can now vote using what’s called an absentee ballot. You don’t need an excuse or a reason. You can vote by absentee ballot through the mail, without leaving your home.
Returning your signed application to the City Clerk: use US Mail, or bring it into the Clerk's office in City Hall, or email it to: cityclerk@gpwmi.us, or take advantage of our three Drop Boxes: inside City Hall, or outside in our circular driveway (the white box or the "Official Ballot Drop Box").
Military and Overseas Voters
If you are on active duty in the Uniformed Services or Merchant Marine OR are an eligible spouse or dependent OR are a U.S. citizen living outside the country, you should complete a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) and submit it to: cityclerk@gpwmi.us
Permanent Absentee Ballot List (new for 2024)
In 2024 all voters can be on the Permanent Absentee Ballot List. If you would like to receive a Ballot for all future elections, request to be placed on our Permanent Absentee Ballot List by marking the box on the Absent Voter Ballot Application.
Returning your Absentee Ballot
Returning your signed ballot to the City Clerk: use US Mail, or bring it into the Clerk's office in City Hall, or take advantage of our three Drop Boxes: inside City Hall, or outside in our circular driveway (the white box or the "Official Ballot Drop Box").
We recommend coming into City Hall to the Clerk’s office or using the drop boxes to return your absentee ballot if you are returning a ballot within two weeks of election day, in order to avoid possible postal delays.
Absentee Ballot Tracking
MCL 168.764c, requires jurisdictions to use a ballot tracker program to track absentee ballot activity for all elections. Through the Michigan Voter Information Center (MVIC), voters may check the status of their absent voter application and ballot, as well as view their precinct specific ballot, polling location, and map to the polling place. Log onto MVIC at https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/
