About The Grosse Pointe Woods Foundation

Established in 2008, the Grosse Pointe Woods Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, public organization created by and for the people of Grosse Pointe Woods. The City of Grosse Pointe Woods has many beautiful parks and public spaces including Ghesquire Park, Lake Front Park, the Veteran’s Memorial Parkway, and the plaza in front of City Hall. Recreational amenities provide opportunities for swimming, picnicking, walking, bicycling, ice skating, tennis, baseball, and basketball, among many others. It is the goal of the Grosse Pointe Woods Foundation to develop and fund civic projects to further enrich the lives of those who work and live in our great community.

The Grosse Pointe Woods Foundation seeks projects beyond those receiving traditional tax-based support; it is focused on enhancement, not maintenance, of the city’s features and offerings. Past projects of the Foundation include the clock tower at City Hall, game tables for the Activities Building, and the Burke Fossee Fitness Trail at Lake Front Park. The funded the Avenue in the Woods banners along Mack Avenue, and installed a 9-hole miniature golf course at Lake Front Park that was officially opened and gifted to the city on August 3, 2019. The city tallied over 2300 players in just the first two months of operation!

The business and affairs of the Foundation is managed by its board of directors, a body consisting of up to eighteen committed volunteers. The board meets monthly and works closely with city administration in all of its projects. A membership program launched in November 2019 provides greater opportunity for residents to lend their voice to the development of Foundation endeavors.

The mission, vision and values of the Grosse Pointe Woods Foundation reflect its commitment to serve the vibrant business and residential communities. The Foundation is dependent, however, upon volunteers, donations, bequests, and grants in order to raise needed funds and to complete projects.
